GANAPATI

(Green and Low Carbon Platform for Economic Transformation in Indonesia)

GANAPATI is an integrated and cross-sectoral platform for policy simulation that can be used by related stakeholders and society to achieve a green economy through low-carbon development in Indonesia.

How does GANAPATI work?

GANAPATI is developed by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, using a system dynamics modeling approach which can comprehend the dynamic behavior of a phenomenon and perform holistic, integrated, thematic, and spatial analysis.

Users can exercise multiple policy scenarios from strategic low-carbon development sectors that consist of energy, land (including forestry and mangrove), waste, and industry. The simulation result of GANAPATI will be summarized into three main curves showing Greenhouse Gas Emission, Emission Intensity, and GDP Growth trends.GANAPATI  can also produce other graphs to provide users more understandings on long-term projection of policy implementation.

GANAPATI is intended primarily for related stakeholders. However, it can be accessed and utilized also for business actors, academics, and the public who are eager to understand and design climate solutions that can be implemented and help Indonesia to achieve the green economy that we aspire to.

What are the right and applicable low-carbon policy interventions to support Indonesia achieving green-economy?

Energy

As one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, low-carbon actions in the energy sector are crucial in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Strategic actions in the energy sector are deployment of New Renewable Energy (NRE), energy efficiency, and transition to electric vehicles.

Land

Land is important to help absorbing greenhouse gas emissions. Several relevant policies such as forest and land rehabilitation, the initiative to decrease the acceleration of deforestation, and transition of agriculture to sustainable agriculture to support Indonesia attaining a green economy can be simulated in this model.

Waste

How far waste management policies contribute in reaching low-carbon development and green economy? Various policies that are related to other waste sectors such as composting, waste to energy (WTE), and other policies can also be simulated by this model.

Industry

How industrial sectors can lower greenhouse gas emissions? This model shows the importance of Carbon Capture Storage policy implementation in industrial processes and the urgency to decrease the emission intensity in industrial sectors.
